Day 19: Not Without Consequence

READ: Numbers 14:22-35

Although the Lord has decided to pardon them, there are consequences for those who “put the Lord to the test” and “do not listen” to his voice. The Israelites will pay a steep price for their rebellion: For each day the spies spent in the land, they will bear their guilt a year. Forty days of spying now equals forty years of wandering around the wilderness.

God wants us to obey Him and His Word so that things will go well for us. In Deuteronomy 4:40, Israel is urged to obey God’s Law: “So you shall keep His statutes and His commandments which I am giving you today, that it may go well with you and with your children after you, and that you may live long on the land which the Lord your God is giving you for all time.”

Obeying God, though often times hard, is always worth it and always for our good. God longs to be gracious to us.

THINK:
-What consequences have you had to endure because you didn’t obey God? What did those consequences teach you?
-Mercy has been defined as “restrained judgment” or an “act where we are NOT given what we do deserve.” Can you see, along with the consequences, God’s mercy in your life?

PRAY & WORSHIP:
Ask the Lord for the strength to obey Him. Remember your acts of obedience. What fruit has come from them? Write them down and praise Him for it.
Ask God to help Two Rivers Church be a church that, above all, obeys the voice of the Lord.
